Grow Your Own Juicy Dessert Pears!

The Luscious Pear lives up to its name. Like the Bartlett, only sweeter and juicer, the Luscious Pear has become an incredibly popular variety for anyone looking to grow their own pear tree. Cold hardy, easy to care for, and producing a bountiful harvest of delicious pears, you'll love having a Luscious Pear tree in your garden.

So much to do with all those pears! Because the Luscious Pear is so sweet and soft, it gives you plenty of ways to get creative in the kitchen. You'll definitely enjoy eating the ripened fruit, but imagine how impressed your guests will be when you serve them caramelized pears with savory dinners, or how much your family will love the smell of sweet peach cobbler baking in the oven.

The Luscious Pear tree is quite beautiful too. The sweetness of the pears gets a lot of attention, and for good reason, but the Luscious Pear tree itself is stunning. Changing through every season and boasting soothing, enchanting colors, you'll be impressed by how much ornamental value the Luscious Pear tree adds to your yard.

A stunning display from early spring to late autumn. Clusters of large white flowers pop in spring. Their fragrance is undeniable and only adds to the appeal. Then, in autumn, the pears begin to ripen and the leaves turn a bold red to burgundy.

The early autumn harvest is an impressive sight. The medium-sized pears, bright yellow with blushes of red will ripen in early September, just as the leaves begin to change from green to red. The display of colors is magnificent and will complement both the evergreens and autumn foliage of your landscape.

The Luscious Pears grow without much effort. The Luscious Pear tree is hardy and durable. Not too picky about soil conditions, and tolerant of city air and pollution, your tree will thrive whether you're in the open country or you have an urban landscape.

Be sure to plant two different varieties to get the best results. Pair your Luscious Pear with a Summercrisp or other pear tree to help pollinate and yield a thriving harvest. Growing to a manageable height of 10-15 ft., a couple of pear trees will fit right into your garden.

Enjoy your own harvest in just a few years. It takes 3-5 years for your tree to bear fruit, so make sure you order your Luscious Pear tree today, so you can start to enjoy these juicy, sweet pears as soon as possible.

Pollination Info

Luscious Pear Tree Pollination

Luscious Pear Trees are not self-fertile. You will need to plant another variety to achieve fruiting. Below are the most effective pollinators we have chosen for your area...

Planting & Care

Find a spot in your yard that gets full sun and has well-draining soil. Plant your Luscious Pear tree in a hole twice as wide and nearly as deep as the root's ball. Loosen the root ball and place it in the hole. Amend soil with compost or peat moss. Make sure the area where to root meets the stem is 2-4 inches above the soil line. When you're done planting, add 3-4" of mulch near the base, but don't mulch around the trunk.

Watering: In your Luscious Pear's younger years, water weekly. If the soil appears moist, you don’t need to do any additional watering. As it matures, the summer rainfall will probably be sufficient. Re-mulch around your tree every Spring to help it retain moisture. If you have a dry summer, give your tree some extra water.

Pruning: Prune dead branches and overcrowded branches in the late winter or early spring before the temperature beings to warm. Try to maintain a balanced, conical shape to your tree's branches for best results.

Pollination: Plant a Summercrisp, Bartlett, Comice, D'Anjou, or Bosc to ensure pollination.

Harvesting: The Luscious Pear is easy to harvest. Once the fruit begins to become waxy and lightens in color, it will be ripe enough to pick. Pears have a more appealing texture when the finish ripening off the tree. To harvest, simply push up on your pear and twist in the same motion. Pulling can damage the next season's buds, so it's important to twist the pear off the tree without pulling down. Immediately place your pear in a perforated plastic bag or an open container and then place it in the fridge. When you're ready to ripen it, allow it to sit out at room temperature for a few days.
