Adaptable Dwarf Size Fits in Any Location

Why Dwarf Yaupon Holly Shrubs?
Rich evergreen foliage in a broadleaf habit meets an adaptable dwarf silhouette, making the Dwarf Yaupon Holly Shrub perfect for planting anywhere. Particularly suited for warmer climates, especially in Southern regions, Dwarf Yaupon lends itself to foundation hedging, border plantings or as a focal point specimen, especially with its modest red berries.

And it rarely has pest or disease issues, so you get good looks without the hassle. The Yaupon stands up to tough conditions and soil types because it actually contains caffeine - making it immune to harsh temperatures, pests and anything else that takes out other varieties. You’ll get the Dwarf Yaupon’s finely-textured, glossy foliage, made for year-round visual interest, in the most effortless way.

Pollination Info

Dwarf Yaupon Holly Pollination

We carry male and female hollies at our nursery, and you will need both to produce berries on the female plant. However, hollies are hard to tell apart when they are not fruiting, and we can’t guarantee whether you will receive a male or female. For best results, we suggest planting in groups to enjoy berries on the female plants and lush greenery on both year-round.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Your Dwarf Yaupon Holly is highly adaptable, but it’s important to select the right location – preferably one that receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day and with well-drained soil. After selecting a location, dig a hole that’s two to three times the size of your shrub’s root ball, place your shrub, then back fill the soil while tamping down the soil to avoid air pockets. After planting, water to settle your Yaupon’s roots.

2. Watering: Water your Dwarf Yaupon weekly, or more often in extreme heat. If you’re not sure when to water your shrub, simply check its surrounding soil down to about 2 or 3 inches. If the soil here is dry, water your Yaupon.

3. Fertilizing: Feed your Dwarf Yaupon with a general-purpose fertilizer or a holly specific fertilizer in early spring.

4. Pruning: If you want a neater appearance for your Yaupon, prune or shear annually in winter to shape it.
